After months of waiting, the day that changes your life finally arrives: Your beautiful, healthy baby is born. Naturally, you want to hold him as much as you can, but there are still times when you need to put your bundle down. As mom of two Emily Loveridge explains, “My biggest “a-ha” the second time around was how helpful it is to have a safe resting spot for baby in every room of the house.”
Thankfully, there’s no shortage of great baby holders that can cradle your little one safely while you do laundry, take a shower or enjoy a few precious minutes of “you” time.
Healthy Baby Holder No. 1: The Carrier
Whether you opt for a sling (where your infant lies against you) or a front carrier (where he’s upright), a carrier is a must-have for babies from newborn to age 1. Baby carriers let you carry your baby safely -- while keeping your hands free. Two great options:
Peanut Shell Classic Baby Sling, $39
A sling is perfect for the youngest babies. Peanut Shell’s Classic Baby Sling is made from a cotton fabric with a bit of spandex for a light stretch. The handy pocket lets you keep your essentials close-at-hand.
BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Miracle Organic Cotton, $160
The BabyBjörn carrier was the first of its kind way back when, and it remains a popular choice among new parents. This style introduces organic cotton fabric, has an ergonomic, adjustable waist belt for maximum comfort and can be used for babies up to 15 months old.
Healthy Baby Holder No. 2: The Bassinet
Little ones (the 3-months-and-under set) do lots of napping, and a bassinet can come in handy if you need to keep baby close for feedings while you’re doing chores far from the nursery.
Kolcraft Contours Classique 3-in-1 Bassinet, $200
The wood frame gives this bassinet an elegant look, but its features are the selling point. The bassinet is actually a removable Moses basket, and the included changing surface attaches to it when you need it -- then stashes out of the way when you don’t.
Healthy Baby Holder No. 3: The Bouncer
Babies love motion; a bouncy seat (with or without the vibration option) keeps them content.
Summer Infant Snuzzler Bouncer, $59.99
A cozy place for your baby to rest, the Snuzzler bouncer comes with a removable body and head support to cradle even tiny newborns. Vibration, womb and nature sounds, musical melodies and a removable toy bar keep babies entertained.
Healthy Baby Holder No. 4: The Hook-on Seat
A fantastic way to include your baby in family meals at the table with you, a hook-on seat also gives him a safe place to rest when you’re busy in the kitchen.
Chicco 360º Hook On, $69.99
The Chicco is an innovative seat that safely hooks onto tables up to 5 ½” thick using rubber clamps. The seat rotates in six different positions and comes with a snap-on, dishwasher-safe tray. The seat supports babies up to 37 pounds.
