“She loves to talk and have conversations in her own language,” said a dad about his 6-month-old daughter. I smiled at the babbling infant on his lap and she broke into a wide grin and nodded her head as if to say, “Yes, I love to talk!”
Babies learn how to communicate by exposure and imitation. Though those early one-way conversations can sometimes feel strange, when you talk to your baby -- even your infant -- you’re teaching her important sounds that she’ll eventually turn into words. She will learn that different tones and facial expressions have different meanings. Language development relies on exposure to speech, so feel free to chat away with your baby as you go through your daily activities. She’ll soak up every word!
